The challenge

I wanted to tackle a problem I know first-hand: freelancers often bounce between apps, spreadsheets, and sticky notes just to stay organized. This constant switching wastes time, adds stress, and makes it harder to focus.
The challenge was to design something lightweight and distraction-free, but still powerful enough to cover the essentials: time tracking, project management, and clear insights.

The challenge was to design something lightweight and distraction-free, but still powerful enough to cover the essentials: time tracking, project management, and clear insights.
My approach

I started by sketching quick wireframes to define the flow, then moved into high-fidelity designs in Figma. At every stage, I asked myself: Would I want to use this every day as a freelancer?
Typography: Inter and Poppins, chosen for readability and a modern feel.
Colors: Neutral grays as the foundation, with vibrant accents to highlight key actions.
Consistency: A small design system to keep screens familiar and cohesive.
Light & Dark Mode: Knowing freelancers often work at different times of the day, I designed both light and dark themes. Light mode provides clarity during daytime use, while dark mode reduces eye strain for night-time sessions.
I also designed supporting flows:
A landing page to clearly communicate the product’s value.
A login flow that feels seamless and easy to use.

What I learned
Testing the design with freelancers confirmed that less is more. Users valued a clean, focused interface far more than extra features. Real-time feedback on tracked hours improved accountability, and breaking tasks into smaller steps gave freelancers a stronger sense of progress.
